We had a fantastic season over 2015; a full fixture list; the weather being (generally) kind; our first international tour; an enjoyable garden party hosted by Alex & Rhian; beach cricket and BBQ hosted by Rito and Pam; an enjoyable charity game in Mumbles; two trips to Cardiff.
In terms of the weather this year; we only had 4 games rained off and played 16. August was our bogey month with three games rained off. Lots of sunshine and lots of play. The badgers were out of their set for most of the season.
My highlight of the year was our trip to France. 4 days of glorious sunshine. Food and wine flowed freely. The cricket was superb and played in a beautiful setting. The game was interrupted by two helicopter landings; which has never happened before in Badger’s history…. Thank God we had Dave Smith there with his linguistic skills… We visited a wonderful French Market in St Leonard. All badgers making their own way there, some by foot, some by bike, one by electric bike…. All in all a very enjoyable and entertaining tour.
At the beginning of the season we had a fantastic day up in St Fagans; playing once against the Cardiologists. Well done Rito, Pam, Dave and Sarah for all you did to help organise. Curry was great (and a little cheaper than the Mint & Mustard).
In July Alex and Rhian invited us all to their place for a hog roast and red arrows fly-by… We all really enjoyed and thanks must go to Alex and Rhian who were incredible hosts.
Towards the end of the season some of us finally took Rito up on his offer for a game of beach cricket. The sun shone, all the women and children joined in and put the regular Badgers to shame. All followed by a lovely BBQ back at Rito and Pam’s caravan. Thanks Rito and Pam. Great day!
The following week we played our annual charity game at Mumbles CC against a strong Mumbles 11. We were pummelled, but the weather held until just after the game and all enjoyed.
Glad to see that Johnny Mac continues with his literary odyssey and we look forward to the release of the best seller.
In summary, what a thoroughly enjoyable season we had. Thanks to Rhodri for his captaincy, Chris for being a secretary, Ian for his sterling work over years as Treasurer (who has decided to stand down), so thanks to Gareth for stepping in and carrying on the good work; (additionally, all those who’ve helped with various elements of organisation over the year, let’s face it, pretty much all of you).
Finally, I’d like to thank Sue for her continued role as President and all the support she gives us. It is an honour to have her as our President.
